2.Cookies the platform sets

No advertising, analytics or social media cookies are set by this platform. Embedded videos from third-party players, where a lecturer uses one, may set their own cookies under that provider's policy; the platform uses privacy-enhanced embed modes where the provider offers them.

  • hps_session: set when you sign in. It holds a random token that identifies your signed-in session. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, secure in production, expires after 30 days or when you sign out. Strictly necessary.
  • hps_anon: set when you start a free practice test or diagnostic without an account. It holds a random token that links you to your own attempt so you can see your result. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax. Strictly necessary for that feature.

3.Browser storage

Some conveniences are kept only in your browser and never sent to HPS: for example your Daily Challenge streak and the last tab you used in a workspace. Clearing your browser data removes them.

One item is sent, and only with a form you choose to submit: hps_src, kept in this tab's session storage, records how you arrived on your first page of the visit (the campaign tags in the address such as utm_source, a referral code, the website that linked to you without the page's address, and the path of the page you landed on). It goes with a contact or result enquiry so HPS knows how you found it. It holds nothing personal and is removed when you close the tab.

4.Controlling cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Because the two cookies above are strictly necessary, blocking them will prevent signing in and taking anonymous practice tests. Everything else on the public website works without cookies.

5.Changes

If HPS adds any cookie that is not strictly necessary, this page will be updated first and consent will be requested before it is set.
